Bhikshus' Biographies

Born in Clement Town Dehradun, Venerable Ngargo Rinpoche Kunzang Tenphel, began his studies at Mindrolling Monastery of the Nyingmapa Sect, where he studied monastic discipline and logic until the age of 18.

In 1984, Ven. Ngargo Rinpoche joined the Tashi Kyil Monastery, where he has studied the six perfections of wisdom, philosophies, and sutra, according to the Gelugpa tradition.

Born in 1981 in Dhomey, Tibet, Kalsang Gyatso became ordained in 1993 and at the age of 13 at Shetsang Ghasar Monastery, Tibet, where he studied the Tibetan grammar, language, and Buddhist philosophy until 2000.

In 2001 and at the age of 20, he hiked across the Himalayan Mountains, arrived in India as a refugee, and entered the Tashi Kyil Monastery to study Tibetan Buddhist philosophy. He served as the monastery’s disciplinarian for two years.

Kalsang has been a regular member of the Tashi Kyil USA Tour.

Born on March 14th, 1981 in Tibet, Lodoe Gyatso has been a monk for over 30 years. When he was 9 years old, his family decided to send him to Tshu Monastery. He learned Tibetan grammar, Buddhist philosophy, religious dance, and melodious tunes of the doctrine from the Tshu Monastery and Rebgong Rangwo Monastery.

After immigrating to India in 2000, Lodoe Gyatso joined Drepung Gomang Monastic University, where he spent a period of two years, gaining knowledge in Pramanavarittika, poetry, and other traditional Buddhist studies. He then entered the Tashi Kyil Monastery and for seven years studied (Tshadma) Prajnaparamita, poetry, and the method of making sand mandalas from stone dust.

After having earned the degree of Prajnaparamita and while studying the Madhyamaka, he served as the principal administrator of the monastery, voted by the majority of the monastic Abbots.

Sangyal Gyaltso, born in 1974 in Tsomam, Tibet, and having lived with his parents until the age of 14, came to India as a Tibetan refugee. He studied reading, writing, and 12 years of Tibetan Buddhism including the Six Perfections of Wisdom at Drepung Gomang Monastery. Now living at Tashi Kyil Monastery, Sangyal Gyaltso has been a member of the Tashi Kyil USA Tour group since 2011.

Avtar Singh was born on December 6, 1989 In Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh State. When he was 12 years old, he received permission from his parents to become ordained. In 2001, he entered Tashi Kyil Monastery and began to study the Tibetan alphabet, reading, and writing. He immersed himself in the study of Tibetan Buddhist prayers and rituals. Avtar Singh has been studying Buddhist philosophy and monastic debate since the age of 14. In addition, he has studied Hindi and English.

He has volunteered to join the Tashi Kyil USA Tour group for the benefit of all sentient beings by teaching the public about Wisdom and Compassion. He also wishes to assist his monastery and further the education of young monks at Tashi Kyil.

Bhanu Pratap Singh Bouddh was born on February 18th 1986 in Uttarkashi, India. At the age of 11 in 1997, he entered Tashi Kyil Monastery in Clement Town, India. He began to study Tibetan alphabet, reading and writing, as well as Buddhist prayers and rituals.  At the age of 14, he began to study Buddhist philosophy. He participated for two years in the Hindi Sanskrit workshop at the Central University of Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, Varanasi. He is currently studying the Prajanparamita (Perfection of Wisdom).

Bhanu Pratap Singh has been teaching English and Hindi grammar to young monks at Tashi Kyil Monastery.  He has been a member of the Tashi Kyil USA Tour group since 2015.
